The Remorseful Ghost

My husband committed suicide almost seven years ago. He hung himself from a tree in the back yard on a cold rainy February night.

A few days after his funeral, I was coming up the front hallway of my apartment. I lived on the third floor and as I got to the front door to go in, I heard like a whimpering/crying sort of sound. It was pretty loud. At first I thought it might be one of the kids downstairs. The lady below me had three daughters that were different ages. But as I opened the front door to my place the whimpering got louder.

I stopped to listen and found it coming from my bedroom. As I opened the door to my room, the whimpering stopped, but the room had a weird chill to it. Not thinking too much of it, I just let it slide.

A day or two later, I had three strange events, three days in a row. I had a kitchen trash bucket at the end of my counter. My husband hated the thing and was always after me to get rid of it. The first time this happened it really scared me out of my wits. I was sitting on the sofa (the living room was off of the kitchen), and could be seen from the sofa. The lid to this trash can flew off and went onto the other side of the room. I got up and put it back on the container, heart pounding. The next day, it happened again. The third day, again. The third time this happened, I got up to get the top and said, "Bo, you can stop this now. It's not funny." After that, it didn't happen any more.

One day I was in the bathroom fixing the door to the vanity on the sink. I was on my knees trying to fit the hinge to the door back in place. All of a sudden, a wicked cold breeze went right by me. It started on my right and went to my left. I didn't have any windows open, no fans or air conditioners on; it was in March, dead of winter. I finished getting the door back on the vanity and was coming out of the bathroom when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. We had a long hallway that was dark all of the time. At the end of that hallway was my youngest son's room. I saw standing there looking right at me a figure of a man, tall, with dark hair. That was my husband, 6'5", pitch black hair and dark eyes. He looked right at me and went through the door of my son's room. I went and opened the door and there was no one there. There, too, was that chill, that same chill I felt in my bedroom. I was so scared that I ran down to my car and rode around until my sons got home.

One night I went downstairs to the shed that we used for storage. It was dark outside. As I was locking the door of the shed, I heard a whimpering/sobbing kind of sound. I stopped and listened, it sounded like someone crying. I went back upstairs and asked my youngest son to go down to the shed with me. I didn't say anything about what I had heard.

As we were standing near the shed, I started to hear that sobbing again. I nudged my son and said, "Listen, do you hear that?" He listened and said yes, he heard it too. We went toward the back of the yard, near the tree where my husband hung himself. It got louder! My son got so spooked that he started running toward the house. We got upstairs and started talking about it. He said, too, that it must have been my husband.

The real strange part is this: When my oldest son came home from his girlfriend's house, he said he heard someone crying outside. He said he walked around to the backyard and it got louder, but he couldn't see anyone out there. I almost dropped dead right there when he said that to me. I didn't say anything to him until he told me that he had heard someone crying outside. I looked at him and then my youngest son and told my oldest son that we had heard it too. We came to the conclusion that it had to be my husband.

One day, while I was at his grave, out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a man walking up the road past the graves. I looked right at this figure for a few seconds, then it disappeared. He looked just like the one that I saw in the hallway that day at home. Tall, dark hair and eyes, he looked right at me as he was walking. Then... he vanished.

I had taken a few pictures of my oldest son and his girlfriend the following New Year's Eve in our living room. The first picture, you see a little small round light on the wall. At first glance, I thought maybe it was from the flash. In the second picture, in the same spot where the white circle was, there is a very faint image of a man's face, with dark hair and eyes. I really do believe that was my husband's face that is in that picture.

I no longer live at that place anymore. I had to leave as it was too much for me to stay there. Seeing that my husband died such a terrible death, I just couldn't stay any longer.
