The Vanished Battalion was a group of soldiers from the 1/5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment that allegedly dissapeared during the Dardanelles Campaign of World War I. British soldiers were heading for one of history's worst defeats.

The British commander Sir Ian Hamilton foresaw a terrible defeat

. He asked for the Royal Norfolk Regiment to the front.

The Royal Norfolk Regiment were boarded in England on 29 July 1915 as part of the fresh forces.

They have been give this name because they had all come from the staff of the Norfolk Royal Estate

King Edward VII ordered to form a military from his staff On 10 August of 1915, the Sandringham and the other members of the Norfolk Regiment arrived on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey.

They were under the command of Colonel Horace Proctor-Beauchamp. August 12, the 5th Norfolks met heavy enemy fire. In the course of the fight…

They had no experience..

They were affiliated with defense units, referred to by military officers .

The Norfolk regiment entered a nightmarish place like hell

Sir Hamilton had planned to attack Tekketepe and Kavaktepe on the night of August 12th, the 54th Division started to advance.

The Norfolk regiment charged into the forest, and were lost to sight or sound. Not one of them ever came back.

General Ian Hamilton, London Gazette. 6 January 1916
The mystery of the Vanished Battalion took an ominous and paranormal angle when in 1965, three New Zealand veterans from the battle said the men walked into a formation of ground-level clouds and vanished right before their eyes.

They had to overcome the great hill that appears ahead in order to fully attack. Since it was a hot summer day, the sky was completely cloudless and the weather was sunny.

The Norfolk procession walking towards the top, started at 04:00 in the morning and completed the march only at 09:00 in the morning.

When they reached the hill, a huge cloud of very bright, reflective fog came towards them.

The New Zealand soldiers standing behind and the Turkish positions on the opposite side of the hill were watching this event in amazement.

They thought this cloud was a rain or tornado cloud, but they were quite strange to have this bright cloud flying low in a sunny and clear sky.

33 former New Zealander soilders spoke 50 years after the Battle of Gallipoli,

According to the eyewitnesses a giant bright white cloud that moved and took the soldiers away.

According to the New Zealand soldiers, this cloud was an ufo, and for the Turks, this cloud was a miracle.

Because if the Norfolk regiment had made the sudden raid that morning, the Turks would have lost.

Three New Zealand veterans 50 years later decided to reveal this secret.

Was it really possible to find a funeral in Gallipoli, a battle field?

Hundreds of, thousands of people, whose names are unknown and whose nationality is unknown lie under those lands

.
Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
The loss of the British army in the Battle of Gallipoli was 34,00.

Today, only 27,000 of them have graves. In other words,

The number of lost British soldiers is 7,000.
